Suffixes

• je: -ai
• tu: -as
• il/elle: -a
• nous: -ons
• vous: -ez
• ils/elles: -ont

Regular Conjugation

Ending in -er: add the suffix to the infinitive.

Ending in -ir: add the suffix to the infinitive.

Ending in -re: remove the trailing -e and add the suffix.

• donner: je donnerai, tu donneras, il donnera, nous donnerons, vous donnerez, ils donneront.
• bâtir: je bâtirai. tu bâtiras, il bâtira, nous bâtirons, vous bâtirez, ils bâtiront.
• rendre: je rendrai, tu rendras, il rendra, nous rendrons, vous rendrez, ils rendront.

Irregular Verbs

Some verbs have regular imperfect conjugations, but with imperfect stems.

• aller (to go): ir-
• avoir (to have): aur-
• devoir (must, ought): devr-
• envoyer (to send) enverr-
• être (to be): ser-
• faire (to do, make): fer-
• pouvoir (to be able): pourr-
• recevoir (to receive): recevr-
• savoir (to know): saur-
• venir (to come): viendr-
• voir (to see): verr-
• vouloir (to want, wish): voudr-

Examples

• Qu’est-ce que vous ferez demain? (What will you do tomorrow?)
• Nous reviendrons de bonne heure parce que nous irons au théâtre le soir. (We shall return early because we shall go to the theatre in the evening.)
• Quand partirez-vous pour Nice? (When will you leave for Nice?)
