Cryptic crossword completed

Misc posts Sep 4, 2016

I finally managed to complete the cryptic crossword in the Saturday Age. I’ve jotted down the solution and my deconstruction of each of the clues; partly to celebrate, but mostly to act as a reference for future attempts at these crosswords.

Notes

13a:
Found this quite confusing; “of this type” also suggests “print”.
27a:
Figured that the solution was an anagram of “the cigars”, but needed to search online to figure out what “German diet” referred to.
21d:
Unsure if “has emerged from” means to remove the letters “h”, “a”, and “s” from “shadowier”.
